How to Pick Your Travel Destination
Picking a travel destination can be quite confusing. There’s an endless list of places that we’d love to go and
endless things we’d love to do. But when it comes to making a decision, many times we’re just stuck. There are a
few things you can do to help you pick a destination.
Talk to people who travel often or have travelled to the places you have in mind. Getting an idea of what to
expect will give you a head start. It’ll help you decide if you really want it or not. Who knows, you might even
end up booking tickets to a place that never even crossed your mind.
Join travel forums. Discuss your possibilities. If there’s one thing we all just absolutely love giving away for
free, it’s advice. You will also see what’s new among the travel buffs; which destination is the hot spot this
season.
With a growing number of sites like Trip Advisor making travel more sociable you can get a complete
understanding of your destination before you go. You can get the latest advice from people who have just returned
or even from locals who are looking to promote their place for tourism!
A good way to decide where to go is to see which place is most happening. Every country has its own set of
cultural festivals. These could range from religious ones to even sports festivals. The tomato festival in Spain,
or the Elephant festival in India – making a choice based on the most happening locations is a good option.
Of course, one of the most important deciding factors is your budget. How much are you willing to spend? How
much can you afford to spend? Some places are a lot more expensive than others are. A small budget should not stop
you from travelling. Do it while you still can. Pick a place you can afford, shorten your trip, but do it.
Be spontaneous. What does your heart want to do right now? Snorkel, lie on a beach, climb a mountain, watch TV
in a hotel room, bungee jump, look at paintings from the Byzantine period? When it’s hard to decide on something,
give spontaneity a shot. It works.
While we’re still on the topic of spontaneity, how about trying this - pull out a world map, spread it out on
your table, shut your eyes and randomly mark a spot with a pencil. That’s your next travel destination. If that’s
too irrational for you, pick a spot closest to your pencil mark that you find sensible enough.
Happy Travelling!
